I'm officially retired

After what seems an eternity, the company I've worked for for nearly 15 years back here in Australia has finally completed a phased migration of their business to a new system, making the VMS systems and my position redundant.

I've been expecting this to happen for a long time, but various delays with the new system pushed it back... and back... and back.

My last weeks are the job were spent configuring a standalone VMS box to fulfill financial record keeping requirements for the business. If they need to get a backup restored, they can do it at the push of a button with this machine. With luck, the machine should survive for as long as they need it... it's already 15 years old and has not had a single major hardware incident! The DEC legacy of building bulletproof hardware has surely followed VMS through the years.

The blade systems that comprised the production and development clusters and an ancillary system have all been shut down, and plans were underway on my last day on the job to derack them the following week.

With nearly 40 years VMS experience, it's time to stop working and enjoy life a bit more. But that doesn't mean I'll forget VMS!

Prompting this post was the fact that I've just configured a virtual machine running x86_64 9.2-1! You can expect some fixed examples code in the near future once I get my dev pipeline set up...
