I've just spent the day at the HP Technology@work event looking at some of the new stuff they have on offer. As an OpenVMS guy, there wasn't a lot for me at this event. I attended because we are looking at renewing our storage solution, and this promised me some hands on with what we might go with.
The highlight of the day for me was having a bloke talk me through the interface for the 3PAR stuff we are looking at (hopefully we'll look at it after it gets certified on VMS ;) It's similar to the EVA, but there are certainly a few more knobs you can tweak. The inbuilt performance reports look good too.
The overall impression I get from events like this is that HP is a MicroSoft reseller. Yes, they offer Linux and they even mentioned Non-Stop on one presentation slide I saw. But there was certainly no mention of OpenVMS, although the storage guy I spoke to was aware of the ongoing certification process on OpenVMS for 3PAR.
With two of the most robust operating systems on the planet in their stable (OpenVMS and Non-Stop) you would think they'd shout it from the rooftops. Nope. How disappointing.
