Update

I've been very quiet on here for the last couple of months. This is due to me attempting to pick up as much information as I possibly can about the new job before the last really dedicated OpenVMS resource retires (which is happening this afternoon).

Some of the things I've been trying to get my head around include:

  • Control-M job scheduling, which is how all the overnight processing is performed here
  • where everything is directory-wise. You should see how the log files work!
  • Various production support procedures (which I'll be dumping on a production support person as soon as we acquire one)
  • A gazillion command procedures that Systems have built over 20+ years to do various things that Applications couldn't or wouldn't build
  • and so on

I'm a little upset about just how much production support is being dumped on me. Eventually I'll have to do an external audit, and it's going to be very difficult to answer the "separation of duties" question that generally gets asked of systems people in a manner that won't raise all types of audit flags.

Anyway, now you know why I've been quiet. Let's see if I can be a little more productive with the blog front.
