There are certain things that you find writing for customer after customer. Disk space utilization monitoring with warning and alarm thresholds seems to be one of them.
I've just written a nice generic monitoring facility to send e-mails to technical support personel when disks get too full. This is really a stopgap measure until the company switches to OpenView (presumably picking up disks via SNMP).
The requirement for this came up after a faulty application program generated a rather large report, filling up the reports disk, and due to some design issues, halted the critical online application. Go figure.
