After a little bit of screwing around with disks on the SAN, I now have the GS1280s configured as they will be when they replace the GS160s in the data warehouse.
I got the network boys to rack the two copper gigabit switches that will eventually be wired into the main network so I could create a private network for testing the machines, and previously, the SAN was zoned to allow the new machines to see the development disks.
I installed OpenVMS 8.2 on a spare disk on the SAN and booted the machines into a three node cluster. Note to people getting new machinary: the latest 2 Gb fibrechannel adapters require a patch to 7.3-2 to work, so it's impossible to install vanilla 7.3-2 on new machines with these adapters.
The machines are now happily running UETP. I'll look at the results after the weekend.
