A few years ago, we designed a cluster to replace our aging GS140 based data warehouse cluster. We specified GS160 "Wildfire" systems, and the plan called for them to be soft partitioned into three nodes each, for a total of six nodes in the cluster.
This was a pretty good design that was unfortunately thrown out the window when the application teams decided to use Oracle instead of Rdb.
So today, I have finally repartitioned the two machines into two nodes each, for a total of four nodes in the cluster.
This was a rather extensive change because of the additional electronics that deleting the third partition freed up. I was able to use the additional PCI cages to provide some more I/O bandwidth to the systems.
Everything seems to check out fine. Let's hope I don't get a page in the middle of the night...
