Restore madness

I spent most of today working out what tapes we needed to spin for a complex restore. The data required was from four years ago, and during those four years, the data had moved from one disk to another, and the directory structure had changed significantly. So it was rather interesting to try and pick the minimum number of tapes to get all the files back.

Interspersed with meetings, I managed to get it all back from two tapes by 3:45 this afternoon. Considering how complex it was, and the fact that the tapes were off site, I'm reasonably pleased.

I can see how it defeated the Operations staff.
