I am currently engaged in paring down quotes to buy about 12 TB of raw disk space for the data warehouse cluster.
The preferred storage vendor is HP (or whoever owns DEC's StorageWorks product today). However, I am getting rumbles from management to look at EMC.
Now, it may come as a surprise, but over the last few years, we have evaluated EMC about three times to my knowledge. And the only way they were able to get a small amount of storage in the door was by management fiat.
I don't know if that's a good way to do business.
If you are going to compare vendors, you should compare on all fronts, including TCO, performance, manageability, scalability, reliability, and when all is said and done, ability to fulfill the purpose you are forking out OPM for.
Anything less is shortchanging your stockholders.
