As expected, the HP vote was extremely close. HP, who obviously wanted a "Yes" vote, has declared that they won the necessary votes to approve the merger.
Walter Hewlett, on the other hand, has said that the vote is so close that it cannot be called. When it all is said and done, it looks as if we will have to wait at least a couple of weeks for the outcome to be determined.
Also as expected, Compaq's stockholders approved the deal today. Any wonder, when HP is paying in excess of $21 billion for stock with a face value of $18 billion.
